Gary's Bio

I am 60, a husband, father, and grandfather. My wife, Mary Ann, and I have lived in the Jeremy Ranch area for seven+ years and just this year we purchased a house and moved to Marion (Kamas). I am the owner of Ernest Hill Publishing, LLC and a contract computer programmer.

I have written two books, published seven papers, and maintain a number of web sites including campaign related websites voteshumway.org and tellshumway.org, in addition to the blog, redpills.org. I hold three master degrees: Psychology (MA-Arizona State University), Biostatistics (MPH-Loma Linda University), and Business Administration (MBA-California State University, San Bernardino). I have also attended Utah State University and the University of Utah. My great-great grandfather, Charles Shumway, along with his son, Andrew, was among the first pioneers in the Utah valley. I have campaigned for Utah State Representative in 2006, Summit County Council in 2008, and now again in 2010.

My wife and I have really enjoyed living in Summit County with its clean air, minimal light pollution, open spaces, bicycle and hiking trails, aquatic recreational opportunities, its agrarian heritage, world renown skiing, eclectic Park City, and down to earth, East Summit County.

I have the education, the desire, no political baggage, and will listen to the citizens. I am willing to spend the time, make the effort, and with your help, produce a difference for Summit County.

I am seeking your vote to become a member of your Summit County Council in order to stem the growth of government in these difficult times, bring fiscal sanity to the Council, encourage businesses to locate in Summit County thus decreasing our unemployment, and to present a voice that has no special interests or political favors to repay.
