Principles

In the Summit County Council, seat ‘D’ race, as in the national campaigns, you have a choice this Tuesday which goes beyond just party politics. You have an opportunity to vote our principles.

If you believe that government knows best how to spend your money and order your life then you have a choice in voting for increased government expenditures, size, and intrusiveness. Or if you believe that you are the sovereign, with God given rights, then you can vote for fiscal restraint, pro-business, and limited and open government.

During the past two years of Chris Robinson’s tenure on the county council there has been an increase of 15% in general county government expenses, a 40% increase in long term debt, a 1.6 million dollar deficit, a 2 million dollar increase in property taxes, and 3/4s of a million dollar increase in expenditures in four county departments. Chris and your Council also voted to implement United Nations Agenda 21 which flies in the face of our fourth amendment, private property rights. Yet Chris would have you believe that the Council with four progressives is conservative and is non-partisan. In short, like progressives nationwide, Chris is running FROM his record.

I, Gary Shumway, on the other hand am running ON my record. I have spent many hours in attending every weekly County Council meeting since June, I am spending $18, 000 of my own money in my campaign while my opponent has spent just $145 of other people’s money. This is my second campaign for a seat on the council but I have always offered you the same vote and voice for fiscal restraint, for limited government, the support of free enterprise, and growth predicated upon available resources. If elected, I will make available the voting record of the Council which is now essentially impossible to obtain. I will host forums for you to express your opinions. And I will seek council from our County’s mayors, the majority of whom are enthusiastic regarding my campaign.

I disagree with the Park Record when they say Chris deserves more time on the council. I believe we cannot afford to give him more time. If you agree with me, please mark your ballot this Tuesday for Gary Shumway, your vote and voice for fiscal restraint and open and limited government on the summit county council, seat ‘D’.

Please be an informed voter and always vote your principles.
