Chris Robinson says "Poppy Cock" to ABC4 News article stating FBI investigating Summit County

By gary - Posted on 07 October 2010

On a local radio show this morning (Thr, 10/7/2010), Robinson denied the story by ABC4 News reporter, Chris Vanocur, regarding the assertion that the FBI is looking into 'wrongdoing' in Summit County government. Of course that begs the question, "Why would the FBI inform Robinson whether they were investigating Summit County or not when they would not tell Vanocur?" Oh, and would it not seem reasonable to assert that those being investigated would not likely be the first to know or if they were "interviewed" would they not be told to keep their mouths shut? Hey, I am just thinking out loud here.

On the flip-side, I certainly hope that Robinson is right. No one should wish that there would be reasons why the FBI should be investigating the County. Yet for Vanocur's sake and the sake of media integrity, I hope his sources are reliable and not just stirring the pot for political, personal, or to see if anything jumps out reasons.

In case you missed the ABC4 News article I have reproduced it below and you can find it at: http://www.abc4.com/content/news/state/story/ABC-4-being-told-that-FBI-has-begun-looking-into/4ZocYckgIkuj74fV-bDvbg.cspx

From abc4.com by Chris Vanocur dated 09/24/2010 entitled, "ABC 4 being told that FBI has begun looking into Summit County land deals":

ABC 4 News is now being told that the FBI has begun looking into allegations of wrongdoing in Summit County.

As ABC 4 first reported, those allegations center on reported multi-million dollar land deals involving the county.

It's not yet known whether this is a full scale FBI investigation.

But ABC 4 is being told that the FBI has now begun conducting interviews.

In fact, ABC 4 News is also being told that several people with knowledge of the Summit County situation have talked to the FBI in the last week.

The FBI is believed to be interested in Summit County land deals going back a decade.

And according to several sources, this is not the first time the FBI has looked into this matter.

Now, just weeks ago, ABC 4 broke the news that Utah's Auditor General was conducting a full scale audit of Summit County.

It now appears the FBI may be asking some of the same questions as the Auditor General.

These questions, reportedly, deal with whether the county has taken advantage of current development laws and benefited financially?

ABC 4 is also being told that the FBI may be looking at both the county's involvement and the involvement of a number of individuals.

Friday, ABC 4 called the FBI.

But the FBI told us that it can neither confirm or deny if an investigation is underway.

As for Summit County, when we asked the county attorney about a possible FBI probe, he told us, "That's news to me."
